Mama Maker Club: Instagram Chat with NoorsKnits

Reality of working your creative business at home

Hi, friends! Going to take a second to talk a little #momlife. Being a SAHM has been more challenging than I ever could have expected. (For example, I expected to be able to do more laundry, but the reality is that there are at least 13 unpaired baby socks in my playroom at all times.)

This past year I decided to go for the gold and start putting out my crochet designs as patterns on this blog, as well as come up with new designs, which added “work at home mom” to the mix.

Starting this little endeavor does offer the ultimate flexibility, which is great (and the reason it’s possible). But it’s a fine line between flexibility and making excuses for not working towards achieving the goals you’ve set for yourself.

It’s a work in progress (see what I did there?) and a continuous balancing act that I’m not sure you ever really perfect.

I recently had a chance to chat with Noorain of NoorsKnits about the ins and outs of balancing our maker businesses with being a stay at home mom. Noorain has an almost-3-year-old and is a mompreneur designing both knit and crochet items for littles.

I saw her bring up the subject of the “maker mama” community during an Instagram Live that Toni from TL Yarn Crafts was hosting (she’s one of my faves btw), and I reached out to her.

Noorain is hosting a series of Instagram Live sessions on both mompreneurs and POC makers. I think it’s so wonderful that she’s working to encourage and improve the sense of community within these two niches of the maker world.

It’s so invaluable to know people who are in the same season of life as you who can relate to your struggles, goals, and achievements.

You can watch the video and read our interview on Noorain’s blog hereAnd you can look out for her future chats over the next couple weeks on her Instagram, @noorsknits.

You can also check out her adorable kiddo designs in her Etsy and Ravelry shops, AND she has a Youtube channel with tutorials (especially her favorite Tunisian crochet).
