Hope in the Holidays Blanket CAL
Hi friends! Over the past year I have loved participating in Claire of Bear Rye Crochet’s blanket square crochet-alongs. Claire collaborates with many designers to bring you a free blanket square pattern each day for a month. At the end, you can join your squares together to make a personalized blanket!
Last year I designed this C2C snowflake square as part of the winter CAL, and also got to design this epic Earth square in the spring. (If you know me you know my love for the Earth runs deep!)
I designed that Earth/heart square very intentionally as we were at the beginning of such a challenging time. Now, 9+ months later, we are all still dealing with the unexpected.
I don’t know about you but I have been having conversations with myself and doing a LOT of self discovery this year, even spending some time reflecting on my childhood.
Since I was a child I’ve always associated with Scottie dogs. My maiden name is Scott, and no doubt that is part of the reason why the Scottie dog sweaters, dresses, keychains, etc were always part of my childhood.
So in the spirit of that holiday nostalgia and coziness, for this year’s winter CAL I decided to contribute a Scottie dog crochet pattern!
Now the ideas are pouring out of my mind for all things Scottie. Stay tuned for (hopefully) more of this to come.

This pattern uses intarsia to complete the colorwork. If you are new to intarsia, TLB Patterns has a wonderful tutorial on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyKzt594eOE. NOTES:
** If you want your Scottie facing the same direction as the sample, make sure your “right side” is the side where the dog is facing to the left. For reference, odd numbered rows are the right side (RS) in this project.
** If you are left handed, you may need to reverse the RS and WS of your project.
** In the attached graph, each pixel counts as 1 sc stitch.
**You may choose to carry your yarn throughout the entire project, carry only the main color (white) and use bobbins for the contrast colors, or use bobbins for the entire project. Carrying yarn throughout the entire project will require slightly more yardage than listed, as I mostly used bobbins for the sample.

This is absolutely darling I am an animal nut and doing the blanket squares
Thank you so much
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoy it 🙂
I am still kind of a newbie to crochet so doing small projects that then can be made bigger are so much more comfortable for me but this square is too cute
I love the cute little dog design on the square! I have a Jack Russell Terrier and it’s going to be great to see how the complete blanket will look at the end of this project!
Thank you! Jack Russells are adorable. I love terriers 🙂
