I made this hexagon baby blanket late last year for a dear friend of mine from college. She said that her nursery had stars and rainbows, and I mulled over it for a while before deciding to try my hand at a hexagon arrangement.

Rainbow baby blankets are so bright and happy and fun. I love the idea of surrounding your new babe with such vibrancy!

Kind of like summer is “wedding season,” for some reason I feel like summer is also “baby season.” Maybe it’s just because right now I know of 3 babies all due in May – including my own #3!

Jungle animals & bright colors were the main theme for this nursery. If you’ve read any of my other baby blanket posts, you know I love the challenge of designing a blanket that coordinates with the nursery theme but still fits within my mission of making timeless, understated, and functional pieces.

And obviously we’re all Disney princesses so it just made sense.

Christmas Crocheting: Baby & Toddler Santa Hat

crochet santa hat

For my son’s first Christmas I crocheted him a couple festive hats for the season. The hat starts with a ribbed band created by crocheting short rows of single crochet, but using the back loops only (this is what creates the ribbing effect). Once that is joined to create the circular band, the rest of the hat is crocheted in the round using double crochet, and double crochet 2-together (or the decrease stitch).
