Inexpensive ad-free PDF versions of all the patterns below can be found in my Etsy and Ravelry shops.

Are you the kind of person who is always ahead on your holiday gifts? If you are, what’s that like? 😉

I love to make handmade gifts, but sometimes my list gets a little too ambitious and I have to cut back on who I make gifts for.

Over the years I’ve designed and made some smaller projects that are great for gifting. The best part is that they are also free patterns on my blog! Check out the list below for some ideas, and follow the links to the free patterns.

1. Chunky Ridge Cowl

This is probably my FAVORITE thing to make and gift, so I put it as #1. It takes 1 skein of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick (or 1.5 skeins of Hometown), and it only takes an hour to make, even for beginner crocheters. Since Thick & Quick comes in so many different colors and variations, you can easily make this tailored to anyone’s personal style.

2. Baby & Toddler Santa Hat

This is probably my most popular holiday pattern. This recipe style pattern can be adjusted to fit newborns or children (or even adults!), and makes the perfect prop for newborn photo shoots or baby’s first Christmas. Using bulky yarn, this works up quickly and can easily be made in an afternoon.

3. Sprout Throw

easy chunky velvet crochet blanket

This chunky version of the Harvest Throw uses Lion Brand Vel-Luxe held two together, and therefore works up super fast. You can make this in any size – the sample I made is a lapghan size, which is big enough to give the gift of cozy, but small enough to finish in a hurry.

4. Mod Buffalo Plaid Gloves

crochet fingerless gloves

These fingerless gloves use Wool Ease and intarsia to create a beautiful and classic buffalo plaid design, but their small size makes them quick to work up. Use black and white so they go with anything, or choose to make them classic red check. Either way, you can make a matching cowl too.

5. Mod Buffalo Plaid Cowl

To compliment the matching mitts, or just to gift on it’s own, this buffalo plaid cowl is timeless and warm. It’s small size makes it workable for last minute gifting, and it’s classic design makes it a great gift for anyone.

6. Seamus Scarf

This long and cozy scarf is a great last minute crochet gift. The main body is a simple mindless repeat, and the basketweave colorwork ends can be personalized for your loved one (I made a second one in Mets colors for myself!).

7. Homecoming Throw

This blanket has all the workings of a quick make: chunky yarn, lapghan size, and simple stripes (no tangly colorwork!). Its simple two-color design makes it easy to personalize for anyone – whether its team colors, their favorite color, or you’re going with a holiday color scheme.
