We are entering what I fondly like to call Baby Blanket Season. I love to switch my mindset in the Fall and Winter to big cozy throws, hats & scarves. But outside of that, my favorite things to crochet are baby blankets!
Looking to crochet a baby gift but don’t have time to make a whole blanket? Or are you looking for a new type of project to try?
I gotchu.
I compiled a list of 10 crochet gift ideas for baby that are NOT baby blankets. I’ve also included links to patterns to products of each, to help you start your search.

10 Crochet Baby Gifts that Aren’t Baby Blankets
1. Booties
Who can resist those tiny baby feet? Sure babies don’t need shoes, but they don’t need 5-pocket jeans either and we buy them anyways because they are ADORABLE.
Pattern: Aunt B’s Loops & Stitches Cuffed Booties – Free Pattern
2. Hats/Bonnets
Headwear is such a great option for baby gifts because they are so quick to work up. Also, unlike shoes, babies need hats! And, lucky for them, you can make them look oh-so-cute while keeping them warm.
Buy: Fetchingly Handmade Pixie Bonnet
Pattern: Woodland Stitchcraft Bonnet Patterns
3. Newborn Photo Outfits
I think one of the best crochet baby gifts you can give are props for newborn photo shoots. So many designers have created such freaking adorable little outfits for newborn photos – ladybugs, mermaids, Prince Charming, baseball players, sweet stretchy cocoons – really the creations are endless!
Buy: MamaMegsYarnShoppe on Etsy

4. Lovey
My daughter is SUCH a snuggler. Honestly she’ll snuggle anything, but she had a few of these “mini blanket friends” and she just loved them. They are perfect for on the go, nap time, play time, you name it.
You know I love a good nursery theme, and with the little stuffy attached you could easily make one to coordinate with the new babe’s decor!
Pattern: Tilly Some Koala Lovey Pattern
5. Teether
Next up are teethers. This is one of my favorite ideas because not only can you make it beautiful and personalized, but it can be a very sustainable gift as well! This is a win on so many levels. Also, you can use sustainable materials, baby isn’t gnawing on plastic, and that plastic isn’t ending up in the middle of the Pacific Ocean when they’re done with it!
You can get wooden rings for under $10 on Amazon, as well as affordable cotton yarn in any color imaginable.
Buy: Farmhouse Knits Co
Make: KnotSoSquare Popcorn Teether – Free Pattern
6. Pacifier Lanyard
God bless pacifiers. Say what you will, but I would not have survived my first baby without one! But when you drop it in Target and the meltdown ensues…you wish you had a pacifier clip.
This is another thing you can make sustainably using cotton yarn and metal clips!
Make: Kneedles & Love Pacifier Clip Pattern
7. Leg Warmers
I know I said baby 5-pocket jeans are adorable, but leg warmers are unbearably cute. And you can make these for either gender! Cute, warm, functional. It’s a win.
Buy: Bambino Store Baby Legwarmers
Make: Lakeside Loops Legwarmers Crochet Pattern
8. Sweater
Speaking of functional, sweaters are a perfect crochet baby gift. There are so many options – cardigans, pullovers, hoodies – you can find something perfect for the particular family you’re gifting to!
Buy: BiBi’s Lilypad Baby Sweater & Hat Set

9. Stuffed Animal
Amigurimi doesn’t have to be small. You can crochet a sweet personalized stuffy for baby to snuggle through the years, and mom & dad can use them in newborn photoshoots and monthly milestone photos.

10. Mobile
Last but not least, if you’re good with amigurimi, a mobile is a super sweet addition to the new arrival’s nursery. There are so many options you can choose to go with any nursery – from rainbows to the solar system.
