Hi friends! I am very proud to tell you that I actually STARTED THE BLANKET. Like physically. I can see it here right now:

If you missed what I’m doing with this, I’m making a temperature blanket to represent my daughter’s first year of life. You can read more about it here and here.

So far baby girls is 3 blanket months old, and it’s getting cold. Her first winter we were home in New Jersey with my mom, and we got 4 nor’easters that season. FOUR. I’d say it had to be about 8 feet of snow total. I should go look up the official number, I am a washed up meteorologist after all.

I made few changes. The first was to my color scale. Once I started making it, the minty green just felt “colder” than the darker green. It was throwing me off visually so I switched those up. While I was at it I swapped the blues too, so that the lighter green would fade into the lighter blue instead of the darker blue. Here’s the final rundown (in Fahrenheit, all in Caron Simply Soft):

• 0-32 White
• 33-42 Country Blue
• 43-52 Light Country Blue
• 53-62 Soft Green
• 63-72 Sage
• 73-82 Soft Pink
• 83-94 Plum Wine
• 95+ Bone

I don’t mind the stark difference between the dark blue and the white for the 2 coldest temperature ranges. It’s like BAM! IT’S COLD.

Speaking of cold, this past week in the midwest (U.S.) school was being cancelled because it’s frostbite-within-5-minutes-cold. I’m seeing people do that trick where they throw boiling water out into the air and it evaporates immediately. I’ve always wanted to do that!

Anyways, I also noticed that my blanket “preview” that I made in excel was 49 x 63 pixels instead of 48 x 64. Face palm. Classic minor detail but huge difference error. Since I had to fix it, I figured I might as well try to make my spreadsheet “smarter” by creating an auto-fill capability. It’s going to take me a minute – the formulas are super short but I have like 2K of them to do, and I’m not one of those smart coding people. But my goal is to make a tool where you could paste in a giant list of 365 temperatures from any year and it will autofill the blanket preview. You could even change your colors to see how it would look, and then keep track of where you are. Would anyone besides me think that’s cool?

I am definitely loving the way the colors are shaping up together. I considered adding some purple in there, but maybe I’ll use that for another kid! I’m also really enjoying the C2C stitch; I’ve never used it before. It almost has a good weight to it that I like.
