I love that so many crochet designers are creating beautiful clean and modern pieces these days. I love how the timeless art of crochet mixes with fresh looks.
Also, you know my favorite things to make are baby blankets! As I’m taking a “break” from making to sniff my newborn, I created a round-up of 6 modern crochet baby blankets whose patters are available for FREE! They have a variety of looks and skill level, so you’re sure to find something that suits you.
You can get to the patterns by clicking on the links or the photos below.
1. Bold Bright Chevron Baby Blanket – All About Ami
Stephanie from All About Ami is one of my favorite crochet designers. Her simple and understated designs are so beautiful. The color fade and large chevrons gives a modern edge to a classic stitch!
2. Windopane Baby Blanket – Daisy Farm Crafts
Daisy Farm Crafts is constantly churning out the most beautiful baby blankets. I love the crispness of this windowpane design, and the soft mint color they chose makes it adorable for a baby!
3. Jungle Beat Baby Blanket – Traveling Hook Creative
I went a little abstract with a simple geometric design on the Jungle Beat Baby Blanket. The bright but simple color palette adds just the right amount of pop for a modern but kid friendly look.
4. Buffalo Plaid Baby Blanket – Stitching Together
Buffalo plaid is all the rage these days. I just love how this blanket puts a new take on the trend with the buffalo check flanking a simple and beautifully textured body.
5. Sweet Gingham Baby Blanket – TL Yarn Crafts
Speaking of buffalo check, it’s close cousin gingham brings the modern vibe with its straight edges and unlimited color choices. Toni of TL Yarn Crafts made this beautiful gingham blanket using Tunisian crochet. I love the colors she used and those giant poms on the corner add a fun and modern finish!
6. SoCal Sunset Baby Blanket – Traveling Hook Creative
This blanket is simple simple simple. The color block creates a streamlined and modern pattern, and the same-color fringe adds the finishing touch without being too loud. This one only uses one stitch and is perfect for beginners!
These blankets would wow any recipient – even (especially) those who think “crocheting is only for grandmas.” 😉
Happy hooking!
